Esther Chapman

Esther Chapman, 73, of Antioch, CA passed away at her home Sunday, April 1, 2007. Graveside services were held Friday, April 6, with Reverend Lori Taylor officiating. Burial was in Oakview Memorial Cemetery in Antioch, CA. Brentwood Funeral Home of Brentwood, CA assisted the family.

Esther was born November 9, 1933 in Clayton County to Charles F. and Eva V. (Dill) Stendel. She grew up and attended school in Clayton County.

July 18, 1951 she married Leroy Potter in Elkader. They later divorced, and she then married John Chapman. In her working life she was involved in farming, selling Stanley home products, and owning and operating the Parkway Drive Inn. After leaving Waukon, she also managed a motel in Iowa City for several years.

Survivors include her children, Pamela Jane (Roger) Protsman of Antioch, CA, Rodney L. (Kathy) Potter of Ankeny, Jeffrey Potter-Stendel of West Palm Beach, FL, and Cheryl Born of Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces Sharon Pratt, Mary Ann Ryan, Susan Enyart and Margie Schulte; and nephews Charles Stendel and Herman (Bud) Stendel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; and a brother, Herman Stendel, and his wife Victoria.
