Harold Franklin Roffman, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Roffman, was born October 1, 1903, and died Saturday, July 7, 1923, aged 19 years, 7 months, and 7 days.
Harold with his brother Otto went to Waukon Saturday forenoon and on their return home stopped at Yellow River just below the Forest Mills dam for a swim. They entered the water a short time past eleven. It was only a few moments until Harold went under. The body was found about two o'clock. From indications death apparently was due to heart failure.
He had been rugged and strong until about two months ago, an attack of the flu left him with a weak heart which has given him more or less trouble since.
Harold was a good, quiet, honest, industrious young man. To know him was to honor and respect him. He is gone, but not forgotten.
He leaves to mourn his parents, Frank and Lucy Segrist Roffman, two brothers, Otto and Earl, one sister Mabel, two grandmothers and a host of relatives and a large circle of friends.
Funeral services were held Monday July 9, a short service was held at the house at 1:30. Services at Bethel church at 2 p.m. where over 250 relatives and friends gathered to pay their respects to our departed one. Interment was made in Minert cemetery.
