Christian Steiger died Thursday, June 8, from dropsy and the infirmities of age. He was past 85 years old.

He was born January 8, 1848 in Germany and came to America when a young man. He lived in Allamakee county practically his entire life, working at grubbing and other farm work. For the past 12 years he resided at the county home.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Magdalene Bechtel of Makee township, and two nephews, Will Bechtel of Makee township and Fred Bechtel of Ludlow.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:00 o'clock at the Pluemer & Bakke Chapel, and at 1:30 at the Congregational church at Churchtown, conducted by Reverend Hoffman, with burial in the Gruber cemetery nearby.
