P. L. Gordanier, a retired farmer died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jess Uhl, Friday night, at the age of 77 years. He was born April 12, 1849, in Canada, and at the age of seven years came with his parents to Allamakee county, settling on a farm near Hardin. He was married to Miss Permelia Segrist, and their union was blessed with seven children. His first wife died in 1911. Two years later he married Mrs. Emma Segrist Werhan. They moved to Ridgeway, Iowa where they lived for fourteen years.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Horace Gordanier, near Postville, Ia. and Lynn Gordanier, Kalamazoo, Mich. five daughters, Mrs. Jane Thornton, Decorah, Ia. Mrs. Rose Land, near Luana, Ia. Mrs. Viola Leet, Waukon, Ia. Mrs. Pearl Richards, Los Angeles, Cal. and Mrs. Cecil Uhl, near Postville. There are 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and one brother, Philander Gordanier, at Bismarch, N. D. surviving him. Funeral ceremonies were held Monday afternoon at the United Brethern church at Forest Mills, with Rev. Harris officiating.

I found a longer obit and extracted some additional info to add to the obit (above) of Phillip L. Gordanier 1849 - 1927Extracted from a longer obituary appearing in the Postville Herald of Thur., 10 Feb. 1927.
Phillip L. Gordanier, Phil as he was always called, was born April 12, 1849, the son of David and Caroline Gordanier, near Niagra Falls, Canada. There were five other children in the family, three sisters and two brothers, of whom only one brother survives, Philander, of Bismark, N.D. This family located at Hardin, Allamakee county, Iowa in 1857. December 4, 1875, he married Permelia Segrist, they had seven children, she died Jan. 5, 1911. On Sept. 2, 1912, he married Mrs. Emma Segrist-Werhan, of Ridgeway where he lived for the past 14 years. He was a member of the M.E. church at Hardin, and the M.B.A. and Yeoman lodges. He was interred in Hardin cemetery.
