William Conrad Schlein

William Conrad Schlein was born Aug. 28, 1919 in Froelich, Iowa, to parents Conrad John and Rose Elizabeth Klotzbach Schlein. He received his early education in Froelich school and then in Figgie School.

On Nov. 1, 1941, Bill married Martina Eleanor Broderick at the Presbyterian church in Waukon. They had five children. The couple farmed in Linton township for many years. In 1981 they moved to Monona.

Bill died Sunday, March 28, 1993 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis. He was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church. He was a board member of Monona Coop, Swiss Valley Creamery and N. E. Iowa Telephone Co. He served as director of the MFL school board for 17 years and director of Figgie Country School.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, Jackie, and one sister, Kate Timmerman.

Surviving are his wife, Martina; three daughters and their husbands, Janice and Lawrence Lotza of Monona, Judy and Roger Radloff of Postville and Donna and Paul Erickson of Clermont; one son and his wife, David and Linda of Monona; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two brothers, Burton of Monona and Dr. M. F. Schlein of Fayette.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 30, 1993 at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated with Pastor Gene Kramer assisting. Organist was Ric Benzing. Special music was provided by a quartet, John Wachter, Kendall Benzing, Harlan Hass and Jackson Turner. Soloist was Stacie Klutzbach. Burial was in Monona Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Norbert Holly, William Rose, Duane Sawvell and Robert Schlitter.

Pallbearers were Richard Moses, Darwin Moses, Gary Kruse, Robert Trappe, Danny Kruse and Arden Schlitter. Schultz's Funeral home in Monona in charge of services.
