Mrs. Anna M. Hayes is Brought for Burial

The body of Mrs. Anna M. Hayes was brought here from Massachusetts by her son, the Rev. Wallace E. Hayes and family, Thursday, where she died on the previous Friday. She had been ill but three days, suffering a shock and dying from a cerebral hemorrhage. Many of the immediate relatives of New Albin and Lansing were in attendance at the funeral ceremonies, conducted by the Rev. Howard Palmer of the Methodist Episcopal church. The church quartet, under the direction of C. J. Travis, sang several appropriate selections. Burial was made in the New Albin cemetery.

Mrs. Hayes was born March 31, 1860, on Mays Prairie in Lansing township, being the oldest daughter of Peter and Christine Hirth. She resided there until her marriage to John W. Hayes of New Albin, which took place Jan. 2, 1883. Two sons were born to this union. The oldest, Rev. Wallace E. Hayes of Rutland, Mass., where he is chaplain of the Veterans Administration Hospital, and the younger son Chaplain Allison J. Hayes, U. S. N., who preceded her in death Dec. 12,1928, at Washington, D. C. Her husband also preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1931, at Independence, Iowa. In her immediate family she is survived by a sister Mrs. Amelia Dorn of Neward Valley, N.Y.; one brother, Edward S. Hirth passing away several years ago at his home in Texas.

Mrs. Hayes took an active part in church work and began as a young woman to play the organ at the Old Stone Church on Mays Prairie. the family resided at different times both at New Albin and other points so as to offer opportunities to educate their two sons.
