George Russell Dies At Oakdale

George Lester Russell, well known Lafayette township farmer, passed away at Oakdale, Iowa, on July 3. death came following an 18 months illness caused by tuberculosis, and occurred a few days before Mr. Russell would have reached his 54th birthday.

The deceased was born at Luana, Iowa, July 12 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Russell. His parents brought him to Allamakee county at the age of two years, and from that time until he was taken ill Mr. Russell resided continuously in the county. His schooling was obtained at the Cherry Valley school in Franklin Township.

His entire life was devoted to farming, and on October 9, 1901, he was married to Miss Della Jones at Decorah. To this union a large family was born, ten chidren of whom are left with the widow to survive his death.

The children are Lewis, Blue Mound, Wis.; Leslie, Arena, Wis.; Cecil, Waukon; Albert, Lansing; Mrs. Mary Cole, Waterville; Mrs. Jennie Sass, Monona; Mrs. Mabel Ashbacker, Church, and Charles, Enid and Delbert at home.

There are also left to mourn his mother, Mrs. Mary Russell living at Dubuque; two brothers, Frank of Waukon, and Lester of Milwaukee, and two sisters, Mrs. E. M. Tischhauser of Dububque, and Mrs. C. E. Diamond of Denver.

The funeral was held Wednesday, July 5, at 2p.m. at the home, with Rev. H. J. Noeding of the Federated church of Lansing officiating. Burial took place in Oak Hill cemetery, Lansing.

Pallbearers were Adam and Geo. Cavers, Jake Moe, Flay Wilder, John Hill and Paul Alexander.

Out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Russell and daughter Darlene of Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Russell and son Norman of Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Tischhauser, Mrs. Mary Russell, Mrs. C. E. Diamond; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Russell of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Russell and family; Mr. and Mr. Leslie Russell; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Cole and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sass, Monona; Mrs. Fred Shining and family, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Clark and Lewis Jones, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Ewing and Daughter, Violet, Rossville; Mr. and Mrs. C. C. De Witt and family, Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. J. Vaughn, McGregor; Mr. and Mrs. Don Lamborn, Luana and Willis Jones, Lansing, and many other friends and neigbors.
