Obituary – Mrs. Peter Reiser

Mrs. Peter Reiser, whose maiden name was Catherine Marti, was born Feb. 4, 1844, at Glarus, Switzerland, and died Jan. 2, 1928, at her home on Mays Prairie, her mind being clear to the last.

At the age of seven years, she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marti, to America. She had two sisters and two brothers. One brother died while on the way to America and was buried at sea. The other brother, Jacob Marti, lived to a ripe old age, passing away three years ago. The sisters, Mrs. Fred Reiser and Mrs. Anna Blumer, departed this life several years ago. Mr. Reiser, her husband, died Nov. 11, 1902.

Seven children, were born to them. Anna died Oct. 11, 1871, and Julius Edward was drowned Jan. 10, 1900. Those surviving are: Henry, of New Albin, Iowa; George, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Babler, Eagle Bend, Minn.; Philip and Barbara, at home. Besides her children, she leaves many relatives in the Marti and Reiser families, also many friends. She and her husband were among the pioneer of this vicinity. She has lived here sixty-four years.

A splendid testimony is given of her as being a true Christian mother; who believed in God and her Savior Jesus Christ. As she has gone to her reward, it is the desire that her loved ones may meet her in the heavenly home. He favorite hymns were as follows: “Nearer, Still Nearer;” “God Be With You Till We Meet Again;” “What a Friend We Have In Jesus;” “Safe in the Arms of Jesus;” “Nearer My God To Thee.”

The funeral services, conducted by Rev. M. C. Powers of Waukon, were held from the home Thursday afternoon, burial in the May’s Prairie cemetery
