Betty Lou Smerud, 62, of New Albin, died of cancer Tues­day, December 18, 1990 at home.

She was born January 12, 1928 in New Albin to Fred and Ethel Hope (Sadler) Weymiller. On August 5, 1947 she married George Smerud.

She is survived by her hus­band; four sons, Ronald of Lans­ing; Gordon and Dean of New Albin, and David of Ft. Ord, CA; four daughters, Sheryl Snodgrass and Jan Brennan, both of Lansing, and Nancy and Carla Smerud, both of New Al­bin; 18 grandchildren; 4 great-­grandchildren; four brothers, Lee, Spring Grove, MN, Fred, Yuba City, CA, Donald, Lans­ing, and Ronald, New Albin; and six sisters, Evelyn Wild, Lansing, Helen Campbell and Lorna Vichlach, Waukon, Laura Griffin, Rochester, Shirley Bul­man, New Albin, and Nancy Collins, Milwaukee, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin with Fr. Henry Charipar officiat­ing. Burial was in the church ce­metery.

Serving as pallbearers were Leo Whalen, Jerry Plagge, Jim Hammel, Randy Bolstad, John Keenan, and John Smerud.

Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, was in charge of the arrangements.
