Freeman Fink, 46, New Albin, was killed instantly Saturday when he was struck by a tree he was felling during clearing operations on the Harold Riehm farm. Dr. Alden F. Wiley, Allamakee county medical examiner, said Fink must have died instantly of head injuries when struck by the tree's branches.

Fink was operating a bulldozer at the time. When the dozer stalled, its treads churning, Riehm went to investigate the noise, and found Fink's body on the machine, which had continued to run.

Dr. Wiley said death must have occurred about two hours before Riehm found the body at around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Fink leaves his wife; nine children; his father; and two brothers. Last rites were set for today.
