Former Resident Dies At Wadena
The funeral of Lottie Grace Jones Whittenbaugh was held Friday, Aug. 28 at Wadena Presbyterian church, with the Rev. G. W. Ukena officiating.
Mrs. Whittenbaugh, a native of Allamakee county, died Aug.25. She leaves her husband, Lyal Whittenbaugh, a son, John Whittenbaugh, two sisters, Nellie and Stella Jones, and one brother, Charlie S. Jones. Also remaining are Robert G. Whittenbaugh, husband of her late sister, Ethel Jones, and brother of her husband, Lyal. Their children, Mrs. Stella Hoing, Mrs. Nancy Grindle and Robert C. Whittenbaugh, are among other relatives who remain.
Mrs. Whittenbaugh was the second daugher in the family of six children of the late Arthur Albert and Nancy MacShane Jones. She was married to Lyal Wittenbaugh of Wadena on May 23, 1925. They had one son, John.
Attending school in Franklin township, Mrs. Whittenbaugh was a Waukon high school graduate in 1918, and later attended Upper Iowa college and Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls.
She taught for more than 40 years, including the rural schools in Allamakee county, and elementary grades at Wadena, Maynard, Strawberry Point, Volga and Valley Community school district, retiring from the Valley system in June of this year.
Active in many fields, Mrs. Whittenbaugh was a member of various religious, civic and professional organizations, including the United Brethren church, Hannah Lee chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Iowa State Education association, Volga Study club of the Affiliated Women's clubs, and a national speech honorary fraternity.
