Ruth E. Burnham

Ruth E. Burnham, 90, of Sparta, died Friday, January 12, 2007 at Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born on May 3, 1916 in Postville, IA to Obert and Clara (Klein) Harris. She grew up in rural Postville on the Harris farm.

She married Ray Burnham in Waukon, IA on November 11, 1937. They lived in Waukon and moved to Sparta in 1942. Ray passed away on December 7, 1978. Ruth worked at various places in Sparta, the last being at the Sparta Community Daycare. Her great joy in life was her family. She also enjoyed crocheting and reading. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Sparta.

She is survived by her son, Gary Burnham of Sparta; daughters, Geraldine (Patrick) Neumann of Angelo and Barbara (Robert) Heinz of Wilton; a son-in-law, Paul Fuit of Sparta; grandchildren, Steve Klein, Jeff Klein, Jay Fuit, Beth Fuit, Sue Marcus, Monte Burnham, Holly Ziegler, Shawn, Mark, and Dan Neumann, Rick Heinz, Kristina Olson, and Jenna Heinz; 28 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Beula Schultz of Postville, IA and Lula (Marvin) Kruse of Sarasota, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; granddaughter, Cheryl Burnham in 1979; granddaughter, Amy Fuit in 1983; daughter, Ragene Fuit in 2000; daughter-in-law, Connie Burnham in 2003; brothers, Leo, Milo, Robert, George, Donald, Russell, and Virgil; and sisters, Gertrude Hangarter-Bluck and Hazel Pearcy.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Sparta, with Reverend James Monson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
