Lillian May, daughter of Charles Henry and Hannah Maria (Poole) Bellows, was born at New Albin, Iowa, March 31, 1883, and passed away from this life March 15, 1945, at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 14 days.

She was united in marriage December 25, 1940 to James Grant Sires of New Albin.

Lillian attended the local public schools and was for awhile a student at Epworth Seminary. For several years she took up practical nursing in this community and served acceptably in many a sick room. She was employed as a clerk in the local drug store for a period of nine years.

When her mother became ill and required constant care, Lillian took up this mission of service and nursed her mother through a period of fifteen years. This labor of love and devotion was outstanding in nursing and care, so recognized by all who knew her intimately.

I addition to these exacting labors, she was active in Methodist church circles, and as a member she was devoted, and was faithful to her Christian beliefs, and trusted her Lord faithfully.

She will be greatly missed from among a large circle of friends, acquaintances and relatives. She was greatly devoted to her immediate family and especially to her nieces and nephews. Toward the last, she expressed a wish that she might go to her Heavenly home.

She was preceded in death by her father, who died March 31, 1920, and by her mother, who passed away April 18, 1941.

Surviving are her husband, three brothers, Charles Porter of New Albin, Warren Chene of Milwaukee, Wis., and Edward L. of Montrose, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Angie Gantenbein of Duluth, Minn., and Mrs. Paul J. Fruechte of Preston, Minn.; seven nephews, Verne, Lawrence, Charles E. Bellows, Milton Gantenbein, Paul Jr., John H. and Mark Fruechte; five nieces, Mrs. Margaret Collins, Mrs. Beryl Mills, Marvel Irene Fruechte, and Myra and Eva Bellows; four grand-nephews and two grand-nieces.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday at 2 p.m. conducted by Reverend DeWitt Clinton, and interment was made in the New Albin cemetery. Casket bearers were Miles Tippery, Leslie Reiser, Leon and Ronald May, Howard Steele and Frank Weymiller, Jr.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral services were: Rev. and Mrs. Edward Bellows of Montrose, Ia.; Mrs. Paul Fruechte of Preston, Minn. and daughter, Miss Marvel Fruechte of Long Beach, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sires of Sumner, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Middendorf of Caledonia, Minn.; and Forrest Sires of Tulare, S.D.

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our friends, relatives and neighbors for their kind assistance and expressions extended us during our recent bereavement, the illness and death of our beloved wife and sister, Mrs. James Sires. We also gratefully acknowledge the many beautiful floral offerings in her memory and thank the people who so generously donated and offered their cars for the funeral.
