Colene Brooks
Colene B. Brooks, daughter of A.T. and Evelyn (Dee) Wendel, was born Feb. 14, 1914 on her parents' farm in the Churchtown area. She attended the rural Churchtown School.
Oct. 31, 1932, she and Kenneth Brooks were married in Galena, IL. They moved to Waukon in 1944 where she worked as a clerk for Evans Refrigeration and Schultz's Variety Store.
Colene was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women's organization.
She died Tuesday, July 9, 1996 at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing: Colene was 82.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Neal Palmer of Waterville, and Janet and Darrel Koozer of Harpers Ferry; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a son Wendel, and a sister, Metha O'Daniels. Funeral services were held at 11 am. Friday, July 12 at St. Paul's UMC with the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing, with arrangements by Martin Funeral Home.
Casket bearers were Kim Thomas, Kris Piedot, Karen Sage, Debbie Harmening, Ann Olson, Terri Palmer, Kathy Benda, Sandy Valentine, Nancy Matychuk and Carrie Brooks. (Grandaughters)
Honorary bearers were Kenneth, Eric and John Brooks, Kenneth and David Palmer, and Darren and Kenneth Koozer.(Grandsons)
