Death of Mrs. Howard Wendel
This community was shocked and saddened Sunday morning when it became known that Mrs. Howard Wendel had passed away suddenly about 6 a.m. at her farm home in Lansing township, death being caused from which she had suffered the past several years.
Deceased's maiden name was Kaitchen Zahn and she was born in Neulusheim, Baden Germany, June 7, 1901, a daughter of Martin and Christina Zahn, where she received her education, after which she was employed as a cigar worker. She came to this country and Allamakee county in September, 1921, when a young woman 20 years of age. On November 2, 1926, she was married to Mr. Howard Wendel who survives her along with their two children, Ruth, 14, and Glenn, 11. She is also survived by one brother, Frederick Zahn, of Stuttgart, Germany, also a step-brother and step-sister, who reside in Germany. She was a member of the Congregational Church, and had a host of friends who will learn with sincere regret of her untimely death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 28, at 1:30 P.m. at the home and 2:00 p.m. at the Congregational church at Churchtown, Rev. Henry C. Marks, pastor, officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Mrs. Wendel became a United States citizen Jan. 18th, 1928.
Pall bearers were Tade Bechtel, Art Wendel, Don Steiber, Willard Marti, Oscar Englelhorn, and Mr. K. Brooks .
