Merlin Thomas Freilinger, 76, of Lansing, IA and formerly of Waterloo, IA, died Monday, August 23, 2004 at his residence in Lansing. Merlin was born in Houston County, MN, on March 7, 1928 to William and Bernice (Burke) Freilinger. He was married to Phyllis Frozene.
He worked as laborer at Rath Packing Company of Waterloo beginning in 1952 for 32 years. Following that he moved to New Albin, IA, where he farmed and collected John Deere Tractors, Rath items and New Albin memorabilia. Merlin was also interested in his Freilinger Genealogy.
Merlin is survived by nine children: Theresa (Keith) Harken, Arnold (Deb) Freilinger, Mark Freilinger, Nancy (Rick Voshell) Freilinger, Annette (Bill) Thorpe, Colleen (Brian Cox) Robinson, Lisa Shadow, Debra Graveman, all of Waterloo, IA, and Diane (Allen) Twait, Forest City, IA; 15 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Regina Zoll, Branson, MO.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Bernice Louise Freilinger in January of 1963.
Services will be Thursday, August 26, 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin with Msgr. Edward Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in New Albin. Friends may call Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until noon at the New Albin Community Center.
