Gilbert R. ‘Ed’ Wiemerslage, 90, of La Crescent, died on Friday, October 8, 2004 at the La Crescent Healthcare Center.
He was born on February 15, 1914 in Eitzen, MN to August and Caroline (Heitmann) Wiemerslage. He married Angeline Berto on November 17, 1945 in La Crosse. She preceded him in death on May 29, 1995.
Ed served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He had been an active member of Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 in La Crescent for over 50 years. Ed worked as a painter in the maintenance department at St. Francis Medical Center for many years.
He is survived by a daughter Patricia (Patrick) Ryan of St. Paul; a son Michael (Colleen) Wiemerslage of Onalaska, WI; five grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie (Miles) Marnach of Caledonia.
In addition to his wife Angeline, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora and Ruth, and six brothers, Martin, Walter, Fremont, Henry, Elmer, and Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, La Crescent. The Rev. Michael Woods will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Crucifixion Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the La Crescent Public Library.
