Mrs. Meta Adelheid Meyer was born in Hanover, Germany, April 6, 1827. At the age of 24 years she came to the United States, settling first at Garnavillo, Clayton County, Iowa, in the year 1851. In 1863 she removed to Springfield, where she resided continuously until the year 1893, when she came to Postville (Allamakee County) since when and until the time of her death she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Fred SCHARA, in this city. On May 15, 1851, she was married to Henry Meyer, who preceded her to the spirit land in September 1880. To them were born 10 children, six girls and four boys, all of whom, save a daughter who died in infancy, were present at the funeral. The daughters are Mrs. Frank SEBASTIAN, Mrs. George THOMA, and Mrs. Fred SCHARA, of Postville. The sons are Henry Meyer of Ridgeway, Iowa; Herman Meyer of McIntire, Iowa; August, David, Willie and John O. Meyer, of Postville. She also leaves 43 grandchildren.

Mrs. Meyer's latest illness began on last New Year's Day, since which time, despite all that medical skill and loving hands could do, she gradually became weaker, and on Saturday, February 15, at 9:15 p.m., death released her from her sufferings, and she passed peacefully away t [sic] that bourne whence no traveler returns.

Mrs. Meyer was a modest, unassuming christian woman, a devoted and indulgent mother, a friend to all, and many there are outside the immediate family who will mourn her loss.

The funeral, which was one of the largest ever held from the house and St. Paul's German Lutheran Church, on Wednesday, February 19th, Revs. Bockelman and Gass conducting the services.
