Funeral Services Held for Lawerence Burroughs
Death came as a blessed relief Sunday evening July 18, for Lawerence Burroughs at the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, where he had been a patient for the past several weeks having been suffering from cancer the past year and a half bravely and patiently without complaint.
He was born at Dorchester July 10, 1901, a son of John Burroughs. He was educated in the local schools and followed the carpenter trade.
On July 6, 1927 he was married to Margaret Colsch and the couple lived at LaPorte City, Iowa for a short time before moving to New Albin. She passed away October 2, 1956.
On May 18, 1957 he married Ida Ferguson who survives. He is also survived by two sons: Lawerence of Pontiac, Mich. and Michael of New Albin, and one daughter; Mrs. George (Belva) Ashbacher of Rossville, and one step daughter; Mrs. Richard Erschele of La Crosse 9 grandchildren, three brothers, Bill of Waukon, Jesse of Caledonia and Manford of Traer, three sisters; Mrs. John O’Hare of Waukon, Mrs. Robert Miller and Alice of Caledonia, also.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday July 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church, The Rev. Edgar Kolfenbach officiated at Mass and at grave side in St. Joseph Cemetery. Casket bearers were; William Gordon, Richard Erschele, Lloyd Colsch, Ted Kruse, Ed Colsch and Ted Strach.
