Death of Mrs. Nicholas Colsch Sr.
The Nick Colsch, Sr. family of New Albin was saddened at 9:30 a.m. Thursday Aug 16 when the angel of Death took their loving mother. Mrs. Colsch suffered a heart attack Wednesday August 8. In spite of everything that could be done for her relief, passed away as above stated.
Louisa Teff, was born October 24, 1863 in a log cabin at Dorchester, Iowa, where she lived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiller Teff until May 30, 1887, when she was united in marriage to Nicholas Colsch, Sr.
The young couple made their home on a farm on Sand Cove until 1915 when they moved to New Albin. To this union were born ten children of which two daughters preceded her in death.
Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her death four sons, Leo, Nick Jr. of New Albin, George of Waukon and Charles of Pontiac, Mich. and four daughters; Mrs. Joe Henry and Mrs Francis Gerkey of Waukon and Mrs. Ollie Erickson and Mrs. Lawrence Burroughs of New Albin. Also six brothers and four sisters, 20 grand children and one great grand child and a great many friends.
The sorrowing family wishes to pay tribute to their deceased mother and wife always remembering her as having been kind and thoughtful at all times including the past two years of trial which she had in caring for her ailing husband.The largely attended funeral was held Saturday p.m. at 2:00 at her home and St. Peters Evangelical Church where services were held, burial was in New Albin Cemetery, pall bearers were; Gus Weymiller, Con Moore, John Rouster, Chris Frielinger, A.M. Pottratz and Otto Batteen.
Her six grand children; Mabel and Esther Colsch, Rachael Henry, Margaret Colsch, Mildred Gerkey and Ellen Colsch acted as flower girls.Allamakee Journal, Wednesday Aug. 22, 1934
