David Meyer, 82, Passes Away Sunday

Resided Here 76 Years; Funeral This Afternoon

David Meyer, 82, a longtime resident of this community, passed away Sunday afternoon following a lingering illness and funeral services are being held this afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church with the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiating. Interment will be made in Postville cemetery.

Mr. Meyer was born at Garnavillo on September 25, 1860, the son of Henry Meyer and Meta Heins. He was confirmed in the church at Ceres in 1875. He came to Postville with his parents when he was six years old and has resided here ever since.

He was married to Miss Louise D. Goldmeyer [possibly Geldmeyer] on September 21, 1893, by the late Rev. J. Gass in the Lutheran church in Postville and to them were born four children, who with the widow survive. The children are Elmer L. Meyer and Mrs. Peter Meland of Postville; Harvey C. Meyer of Sabula, and Fritz Meyer of Oakland, Calif. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and one brother, John O. Meyer of Ossian, and one sister, Mrs. Sophia Schara, of Prairie du Sac, Wis. Four brothers and two sisters passed away some years ago. These were Henry Meyer of Cresco; Herman Meyer of Beloit, Wis.; August and William Meyer and Mrs. Frank Sebastian and Mrs. George Thoma of Postville.

Pallberaers were Frank Sebastian, Alfred Meyer, Lawrence Meyer, Alvin Meyer, Fritz Thoma, nephews of the deceased, and Freddie Einck. The flower bearers were Mrs. Luver C. Schultz, Mrs. Louis Harnack, Mrs. John C. Kohrs and Mrs. Fred C. Schara.
