Funeral services for Viola Duwe were held Saturday, August 3, 2002, at 10:30 A. M. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend James Allison officiated. The Casket Bearers were: Wayne Schroeder, Joe Duwe, Dennis Koenig, Kenneth Schroeder, Keith Schroeder, Ky Kirkeberg and the Honorary Casket Bearers were: John Moser, Dr. James Meehan, Dr. W. H. Armentrout, Everett McKee. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Viola Anna Louise Duwe, the daughter of Joseph Henry August Duwe and Elizabeth Christina Bareis Duwe, was born September 28, 1920 south of Postville, Iowa, in Clayton County. She passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 81 years, ten months, and two days.
She was baptized January 11, 1921 by the Reverend E. Schmidt and confirmed March 25, 1934 by the Reverend R. B. Garten, both in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. Viola attended the Springfield School in Grand Meadow Township, and graduated from Postville High School in 1939. She was employed at the Citizens State Bank for 21 years and was the Secretary at St. Paul Lutheran Church for seven years. Viola was also employed at Hoth Real Estate and Auctions for 12 years, as well as 12 years in the office of Drs. Juffer and Meehan. Viola never stopped working and continued in many capacities including bookkeeping and answering services. Viola was a life time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA. She served as the Treasurer for the Allamakee County Chapter of the American Cancer Society for 25 years. Viola enjoyed raising flowers, especially African violets. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Roy and Harvey Duwe, two sisters, Celia (Harvey Engelhardt), Florence (Charles Schutte, Jr.), and two nephews, LeRoy Duwe and Leo Schroeder. Surviving are two sisters, Clara Schroeder and Helen Duwe, both of Postville, two nieces, Marian (George) Friederich of Colorado Springs, CO, and Inez (Ky) Kirkeberg of Monona, three nephews, Kenneth (Sandi) Schroeder of Pleasant Hill, IA, Keith (Jackie) Schroeder of Waukon, IA, and Wayne (Twila) Schroeder of Postville.- source: Postville Herald-Leader, August 08, 2002
