Early Member of Religious Order Dies
Sister M. Leonina, one of the pioneer members of the Franciscan Sisters in La Crosse, died at St. Francis Hospital Sunday evening at the age of 91.
She was born at Lycurgus, Iowa, in 1867, the daughter of Landelin and Louisa Haas. At the age of 18 she enter St. Rose Convent at La Crosse and made her first profession of vows in 1888.
During a great part of her religious life she was closely associated with the administration of the community. As treasurer general and business manager from 1910 to 1940, she was recognized for her good judgement in business affairs and her executive ability. Prior to this she was mistress of novices from 1904 to 1911.
For the past 10 years, Sister Leonina has lived at Villa St. Joseph, always active in the many minor duties about the house.
Funeral services were held at St. Rose Convent Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.
A niece, sister Rose Claire, is supervisor in the surgical department at St. Francis Hospital. Another niece, Sister M. Leonita, teaches at Guttenberg, Ia.LaCrosse Tribune Page five
