Herman J. Rachor

The death of Herman Rachor took place Friday noon at 12:30 at St. Francis hospital, LaCrosse, where he had been taken the day before for medical care. He had suffered from kidney trouble several months and in his weakened condition a heart attack which followed proved fatal.
Herman Joseph Rachor was born on the old home farm in Lansing township, Sept. 3, 1879, a son of the late Valentine and Emma Haas Rachor-pioneer settlers; and there he spent his entire lifetime. He was educated in the rural schools and in his religion at I. C. Church, to which he was a faithful and devoted member all his life. He was a natural-born farmer-the occupation he loved-and kept abreast of the times, making it a profitable business, and giving him the independence and freedom from financial worry which beset so many others.
His parents and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Klein, preceded him in death; and he is survived by four sisters, Mary and Teresa at home, Mrs. Will Schafer of Center township, and Sister M. Firma, Spokane, Wash.; and one brother, Peter H., of Wilmot, S. D. Deceased never married, and Mary was always his housekeeper and companion; and a host of other relatives and friends mourn the passing of this good man, and will join us in extending sympathy to those most deeply bereaved.
Herman Rachor was a true Catholic gentleman, and we doubt if he had a single enemy; an honest, upright citizen, a loyal friend and good neighbor-ever ready to help those less fortunate in time of need. That his sterling worth was appreciated was mutely testified to by the large concourse of friends of all denominations who filled the church at his funeral Monday.
Solemn Requiem High Mass was sung that morning at 9:30a.m. by Father J. J. Breitbach, assisted by Father O’Toole of Lycurgus as deacon and Father White of Wexford as sub-deacon. All three priests also were at the graveside in Gethsemane cemetery, where interment was made in the family lot beside his loved ones gone before.
Casket bearers were Messrs. Leo Krieger, Carl Hurm, Frank Gander, Tony Ferring, Pius Hess and R. A. Dunlevy.
Out of town relatives in attendance included P. H. Rachor and wife, Wilmot, s. D.; P. J. Rachor and wife, Des Moines; Miss Kate Rachor, Dubuque, and the Rudy Kemp family, also of the Key City. Old friends in attendance at the funeral included Mr. And Mrs. Ed. Schwab and Miss Mary Licht of Monona.
