Jane Clara Snitker

(February 10, 1937 - July 20, 2006)

Jane C. Snitker, 69, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 23rd at 1:30 pm at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon, with Pastor Judy Scheer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 pm Saturday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Jane Clara Snitker was born on February 10, 1937, the daughter of Leonard LeRoy and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Flage) Snitker, at their Ludlow Township, rural Postville farm. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem United Church of Christ where she remained a life-long member. Jane attended Ludlow #9 and #4 rural schools. Following her schooling she stayed home and helped her parents on the farm and babysat for many of her nieces and nephews. Following her father's death, she moved to Waukon and lived with her mother. Later she lived at Martin Luther Group Home before moving into her own apartments. Jane was employed at TASC in Waukon for many years. She worked at counting, sorting and packaging a number of different items as well as doing cleaning and mowing. During her time at Martin Luther Homes and TASC she developed many very close friendships with those around her. She volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels and in recent years had enjoyed a special relationship with the members at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon.

Jane enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and all kinds of word games. She was accomplished at embroidery and a variety of arts and crafts. Her favorite passtimes included listening to music, watching TV, playing bingo, getting mail and going to family gatherings.

Survivors include 4 brothers, Lloyd (Joyce) Snitker of Frankville, IA, DuWayne (Laurayne) Snitker of Waukon, Earl (Mary Lou) Snitker of Oceanside, CA and Dennis (Patty) Snitker of New Port Richey, FL; a sister, LaVonne Brandt of Frankville; 3 sisters-in-law, Loretta, Phyllis and Janet Snitker, all of Waukon; an aunt, Gladys Flage of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers, Donald, Leonard Junior, David and infant LeRoy.

Casketbearers are Paul, Greg, Steve, and Bob Snitker, Cindy Olson and Dawn Farley.
