Charles R. Brown

Charles R. Brown was born 1892 to Rufus and Mary Vaughn Brown in Arcadia, Nebraska. He served in France during World War I. He married Orpha Thias (1905) at Aurora, Ilinois, in 1927. Orpha was the daughter of John and Sophia Thias of Allamakee County. After a few years in Illinois, Charles and Orpha moved to her parents farm in Allamakee County, and took over the operation of this farm.

In 1937, they moved to Castalia and ran a gasoline station there. In 1942, the family moved to Burlington, where Charley worked for the Murray Iron Works. In 1944, they returned to Castalia, where he bought a tavern business among other things. In 1951 Charlie & Orpha Brown moved to a farm near Rossville, Iowa and later to Waterville, Iowa.

They were the parents of 3 children: Mary, Charles and Kay.
