DANIEL H. BOWEN was born in Decatur, Wisconsin, September 6, 1850. He was reared on a farm and received a liberal education, teaching school for several years. At twenty-two years of age he began the study of medicine in Broadhead, Wisconsin, and soon after entered Rush Medical College from which
he graduated in the class of 1876. He removed to Iowa, locating at Waukon in Allamakee County, where he has practiced medicine for more than twenty-five years. He was an active Republican and in 1895 was elected Representative in the House of the Twenty-sixth General Assembly, and has been twice reelected,
serving in the Twenty-seventh and Twenty-eight General Assemblies. He was chosen speaker of the house of the latter session, having been selected by the supporters of Senator John H. Gear. For seven years Dr. Bowen was a surgeon of the Fourth Regiment of the Iowa Nationa Guard and has held many official positions in his home city and county.
