Charles Bowman Churchill was born 26 January 1829 in New York. He died 23 October 1910 in San Diego, California. Charles was the son of Levi Morse Churchill (1807-1890) and Juliana Bowman (1811-1839).
Charles married Elizabeth Ann Stephens19 December 1854 in Green County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Rueben Doty Stephens (1799-1858) and Sarah Milks (1803-1892). Elizabeth was born 31 August 1837 in Pennsylvania. She died 22 December 1927 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Edna Coe in Nebraska.
Levi Churchill and Rueben Stephens families were natives of New York. Both families were engaged in agriculture in Green County, Wisconsin by the 1850’s.
Charles settled in Jefferson, Allamakee County, Iowa shortly after his marriage in 1854. He acquired farm land in Section: 20, for his homestead. Charles sold his farm in 1870 and purchased a farm in Franklin, Butler County, Nebraska. By 1893 the family lived in California and Charles continued farming.
Charles Bowman Churchill’s half-brother was the Hon. Arthur Smith Churchill (1845-1920). He served as the Attorney General of Nebraska in the 1890’s.
