Fred O'Boy was a true friend, admired by all his acquaintences, which has been a remembrance handed down to the younger generation, by all who knew him personally. Described as a tall, lanky, quiet fellow, he showed an interest in all community activities. He was a member of the Castalia baseball team. He operated a grocery store in Castalia, where he had the reputation of handing out some treats to the children of his patrons. In 1931, Fred O'Boy left Castalia to live in Decorah, having accepted the appointment of Winneshiek County Deputy Sheriff. He served for 14 years as Deputy Sheriff. He died at the home of his sister Rose, in St. Paul Minn. on June 20, 1956. He was buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Ossian.
