Ole E. Eide is one of the popular business men of Chaseburg, where he is senior member of the firm of Eide & Finstad, dealers in general merchandise and agricultural implements and machinery.

Mr. Eide was born in Allamakee county, Ia., June 7, 1862, and is a son of Elling and Inger (Schjeldahl) Eide, both native of Norway. The father was born Jan. 1, 1822, and he served about six years in the Norwegian army. In 1856 he came to American and took up his residence in Allamakee county, Ia., where he bacame a pioneer farmer and where he passed the remainder of his life. He died in 1891 and his widow still resides in the county mentioned.

Ole E. Eide was educated in the public schools of his native state, and from 1888 to 1892 he was engaged in the creamery business at Bryant, S.D., from which place he came to Chaseburg, Vernon county, Wis., in the year last noted. He had charge of the operation of the Chaseburg creamery thereafter until 1899, when he associated himself with Edward Finstad and purchased the general merchandise stock of John Berg. The firm of Eide & Finstad has since controlled a large and substantial trade and its operations are based upon an unassailable reputation for reliability and fair dealing. To the original enterprise has been added the department devoted to agricultural implements and machinery, and the same has been successfully conducted. Mr. Eide is a stalwart supporter of the cause of the Republican party and he has served several years as clerk of the Chaseburg board of education. He is affiliated with Modern Woodmen and the Beavers and is secretary of the Chaseburg Colony, No. 10, of the latter order.

In April, 1894, Mr. Eide was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Finstad, daughter of Chris L. and Ellen Finstad, of Chaseburg, and they have six children, namely: Eldridge A., Clarence E., Irene, Palmer, Orien, and Herbert S.
