Meet Death in Trying to Ford the Nodoway River.
Two daughters of John Lacock, aged twenty-three and nineteen years, respectively, were drowned in the Nodoway river, three miles east of Villisca. With a brother, they attempted to drive through a swollen stream. When they reached the middle of the swirling waters the young man became confused and tried to turn the team around, thus upsetting the carriage. Persons living near by were attracted to the spot by cries and rescued the young man, but the girls’ dresses weighed them down and they were drowned.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows Nora Bell was born July 30, 1887 and died August 18, 1908 and is buried in Methodist Grove Cemetery in Nodoway, Adams County, Iowa. Her sister
was Myrtle.
