Ashbell Jacob Stoner, son of John and Mary Stoner was born March 8, 1869 in Vinton, Iowa, and departed this life at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, on Sunday, July 6, 1952, at 3:05 p.m. at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 29 days. He had been patient and uncomplaining thru 1 1/2 years of ill health, which became serious one week before his death.
His family consisted of four brothers and four sisters of which only one sister survives.
Mrs. Stoner was united in marriage to Flora Lane, November 10, 1895 at Prescott, Iowa. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Frank Sears of Prescott, Iowa.
Mrs. Stoner passed away March 31, 1911. Before locking in Prescott in 1892, Mrs. Stoner lived near Blockton, Iowa; also in Creston.
He had been employed by there railroad since the age of 16, for which he worked for 52 ears. He was a very pleasant and considerate Section Foreman at Prescott for 50 years, highly respected by all who worked for him.
On November 2, 1913, Mr. Stoner was united in marriage to Vannia McGregor, who has been a devoted wife and given him patient and loving care thru his illness.
Mrs. Stoner united with the Methodist Church in 1892. Being always a faithful worker and supporter of the church and lived his life strictly by the Ten Commandments.
He was also a member of Modern Woodman and Odd Fellow Lodge.
He was a faithful husband and kind father and cherished his grandchildren with much pride and joy.
His gracious manner and pleasant greeting will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Frank Sears, one granddaughter, Mrs. Roy Nebon of Corning, one grandson, Lyle Sears, Long Beach, California, two great grandchildren, Carl and Frank Sears of Long Beach, California, and one sister, Mrs. Pearl Teas, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Funeral services were held July 8, 1952 at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Prescott, conducted by Rev. Cunningham.
Pall bearers were Forrest McGregor, Clifford McGregor, Harvey O’Riley, Howard Riley, Leonard Morris, and Paul Green. Music was furnished by Betty Joye and Patricia Ryan accompanied by Mrs. Fred Moon. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Prescott, Iowa.
