ELIAS THOMPSON
Elias, most familiarly known as “Cub” Thompson, son of William James and Lucretia Figgins Thompson, was born in Adams County, Iowa December 17, 1887. After a lingering illness, he passed away April 5, 1964 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, where he had been a patient for the last five weeks.
He lived his entire life in Adams and Montgomery Counties where he engaged in the occupation of farming and coal mining.
December 22, 1910, he was married to Miss Leota Bowman in Clainda, Iowa, who passed away December 29, 1957.
Several years ago Mr. Thompson and his wife retired and moved to Carbon, Iowa which became their permanent home.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers, He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Etta Taylor of Brooks and Mrs. Minnie O’Connell of Lancaster, California, one brother and one sister-in-law, Roy Thompson of Brooks, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
mr. Thompson was industrious, modest, cheerful, and quiet and loved his home and the outdoors. His greatest happiness was sharing his flowers, fruit, and vegetables with his neighbors and friends. He was helpful, kind and good to those about him and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 7 at 2 p.m. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning with Joe Cook officiating. Music was by Mrs. Doyle Tranberger, Mrs. Bert Peckham, and Mrs. Joe Cook. Pall bearers were Eal Selby, Glen Bixler, George Robison, Lyman Hoselton, Earle Bixler, and John Hunter. Interment was in the Quincy Cemetery.
