Joseph Earl Elwell, 86 years, 5 months, 17 days, widow, farmer, born in Ohio, died March 27, 1898 in Nodaway of Old Age and is buried in the Nodaway Cemetery.
Information found in the Adams County Court House, book 1, page 71
Joseph Elwell was born in Warren County, Ohio, November 10, 1811 and died in Adams County, Iowa, March 17, 1898.
He came to Iowa in 1834 and was married to Lodemia Wilson the next year, whose death occurred several years ago. For some time he has made his home with his son-in-law, J. A. Mason, who lives three and one-half miles north of Nodaway, and from this home he passed away. The funeral services were held from the house, Monday at 2 p.m., conducted by J. D. Sparks and attended by a large company of relatives and friends. The burial took place in the Nodaway Cemetery. All extend their sympathy to the bereaved.

Joseph Elwell, who came to Iowa In 1834, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Mason, residing north of Nodaway. He was born in Warren county, Ohio, Nov. JO, 1811. Rev. J. D. Sparks conducted the funeral services and interment was in the Nodaway cemetery.
