Lucy May Huddleson, 63 years, 7 months, 26 days, passed away Friday, January 3, 1947, at 8:20 a.m., at her home southeast of Corning, after an illness of four months.
She was born May 7th, 1883, the daughter of Porter and Mary Robinson Huddleson, in Cass Co., Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.
On March the 4th, 1903, she was united in marriage to Otto Westphal at Massena, Iowa.
Two sons were born to this union, Otis of Corning, Iowa, and Albert of Massena, Iowa, Esther at home, a daughter of George Huddleson, was taken into their home at the age of eleven months and reared as their own.
Others surviving are: four grandchildren, Averye and Verlyne, daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Westphal, Ferne and Marjie, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Westphal, two brothers, Mike Huddleson of Wiota, and George of Anita, several nieces and nephews, relatives and a host of friends.
Her mother and father, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
In the early years of her marriage she was converted and baptized in a union of churches, tent meeting near Anita. Later she was affiliated with the Victoria M. E. Church, transferring her membership to the Corning First M. E. Church.
Lucy, as she was known, came with her husband and family to Adams County in 1913, where they resided on a farm in Washington Township, until 1937 when they moved nearer Corning and had since resided in this vicinity.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 5, at the Methodist Church in Corning, in charge of Rev. Victor A. Bloomquist. Interment was made in the Massena Cemetery.
Pall bearers were: E. M. Love, Carl Gillet, Clark McKeown, Earl Gibson, Dr. M. R. Beemer, Ted Turner.
