Obituary of Marion Barton as appeared in: Adams County Free Press, Vol. 63, No. 31, p. 6; June 14, 1945

“Marion Barton

Marion Charles Barton, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barton, was born June 20, 1905 near Gravity, Iowa, and passed away at the St. Joseph’s hospital in Centerville, Iowa, June 8th, 1945, at the age of 39 years, 11 months, 18 days. Death was caused from injuries received while working. Marion has one sister, Mrs. Earl Brokaw of Des Moines, Iowa, four aunts, Mrs. Lou Stowell of Bedford, Iowa, Mrs. Eva Templeton, Bedford, Iowa; Mrs. Yettie Flowers, Oregon; Mrs. Rose Dhone, Corning, Iowa; 23 first cousins. He was married to Miss Nellie Walton, February 17, j1926,. To this union eight children were born. One daughter passed away in infancy. The living are: Wayne Charles in service, stationed in Rhode Island; Mrs. Leonard Peel, Centerville, Iowa; James, Walter, Francis, Dorothea and Jerry, all at home.

Except for short trips Marion spent his entire life in Iowa. He has worked all over the state at construction work. He worked 8 years for the Adams County, two years for the state, and has worked the past four years for the Dixon Construction Co. at Centerville and Kirksville, Mo.

Marion from a child was a favorite of all the family and was especially close to his one sister, he was so happy hearted and friendly, he never shirked a job no matter how hard or long.

Services were held June 10, from the Christian Church in Corning, Iowa. Interment was in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Friends and relatives from out of town were Mrs. Lou Stowell, Bedford, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Rushford Stowell, Bedford, Iowa, Mrs. Smith Dhone and son, Mr. and Mrs. Boyde Kelley, Mr. Paul Lewis, Mr. Eli Peters, Chubby, a friend, all from Centerville, Iowa.”
