Mrs. Irene Ethel “Rena” McFarland, daughter of Jacob Lacox and Maria Helen Shields was born near Brooks, Iowa June 9, 1873 and passed away at her home in Nodaway September 19th, 1948 at the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 10 days. Most of her life was lived in Iowa.
She was united in marriage to James Edward Brown of Brooks, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, Freddie, of New Market and Chester of Nodaway, Iow. Besides her two sons and two daughters-in-law, she leaves her second husband, Tony McFarland and seven grandchildren, also five great-grandchildren.
Besides her immediate family, she leaves to mourn her death, one brother, Glen Lacox of Creston, and three sisters, Mrs. Leota Bullock of Creston, Mrs. Kathrine Stennett, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. Jessie McCowen of Burlington Junction, Missouri, and a host of other relatives and friends. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, and will be missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Christian Churcn.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Nodaway, Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. C. Rowe in charge. Mucis was furnished by Mrs. Harold Everett and Mrs. Raymond Dismukes with Mrs. Rose Stalder at the piano. The pall bearers were John Strain, Dan Strain, Wallace Patton, Henry Howard, Marcus McCowen, and Charlie Watts. Burial was made in the Methodist Grove Cemetery.
Those from a distance attending funeral services of Mrs. McFarland were Mrs. Kathrine Stennett of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Jessie McCowen, Fred and John McCowen of Burlington Junction, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shields, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shields, and Freddie Shields of Slam; Eldon Wilson, Bedford; John Hargun and Mrs. Pauline McKern, Lenox; Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Fletcher, Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Ludlo Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Brown, and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brown, all of New Market, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Purdue of Gravity.
