Died at her home in Nodaway, Iowa, September 15, 1895, Mrs. Thomas Brown. Friends and neighbors watched by the bedside of the sufferer many lonely hours. Hopes for her recovery were entertained, but the Devine ruler knew best. She bore her suffering with great patience until the master spoke the word of separation to soul and body, and on that holy Sabbath morn her soul winged its light to the giver of all good. Mary Elizabeth Williams was born in London County, Virginia, August 27, 1814. She came to Highland County, Ohio in 1833, where she was married to Thomas Brown. From this happy union thirteen children were born of whom seven still survive. She came to Adams County in 1865, united with the M. E. Church and was always found at her post of duty. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Harned. Text, Rev. 14, chapter 13th verse, “Blesses are the dead that die in the Lord, yes, saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors, and their works may follow them.” The sermon was touching and shoewd forth the beautiful life lived by Mother Brown. Some beautiful music was rendered by the choir, anon which verses composed by Father Brown, “Christ and Friends at Home,” sung to the tune of “Meet Me There.”
After friends had taken the last look the body was taken to Nodaway Cemetery for interment. Her work on earth is o’er, but we know she has her place in heaven.
