Harlow-October 5, 1893, at his home in brooks of typhoid fever. James Walter Harlow, aged 76 years and 9 months.
The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church in Brooks, conducted by Rev. Harned, and the remains were laid to rest in the Brooks Cemetery, in the presence of a melted of sorrowing friends. The deceased was born in Kentucky and removed to Indiana with his parents while quite young, where he grew to manhood and married Miss Martha J. Thompson, removing to Jefferson County Iowa in 1865. In 1856 he came to Adams County and settled at Brooks where he had made his home until the time of his death.
Mr. Harlow was a member of the M. E. Church and his long exemplary life was a positive evidence to all who knew him that there is a reality in religion. He was one of the early settlers of this county and his man charitable and kindly acts testify that he had a heart capable of being touched by misfortunes of others, he was very devoted to his family and it seemed to be his chief delight to give careful attention to the needs of his own household. He leaves the wife and nine children, two sons and seven daughters to mourn his death. The bereaved relatives have the fearful sympathy of a large circle of friends.
