Charles Edward Wood was born March 26, 1880 and passed away at a nursing home in Villisca, February 2, 1959 after a long, lingering illness, brain tumor, aged 76 years, 10 months, and 6 days.
Adams county has been his home all his life except a few months he spent in Texas. He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Thuman, April 21, 1909 at Corning, Iowa by Father Richard Dollard at which time he became a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and two sisters. They were Ivy, Mrs. Birt Peterson, James B. Wood, John A. Wood, and Hazel, Mrs. Edward Sneathen.
Charles was the last member of his family. He read a lot and kept up with current events and was a baseball fan.
He was a farmer all his life. He was also one of Adams County's supervisors for three years. He leaves a number of nieces and nephews and cousins. Two sons were born by a former marriage. One died in infancy and the other's address is unknown. Funeral services were Wednesday, February 4 at Villisca, conducted by Father Eugene Klein of Clarinda. Casket bearers were Hugh Hogan, Lawrence Bickert, Raymond Spring, William Orme, Joseph Scanlan, and Edward Reavis.
