WAS KILLED IN OMAHA
Floyd Tucker Shot Down by Angry Italian after Quarrel
Was Former Brooks Citizen
John Canella, Of Omaha Held For First Degree MurderCharge by the Officers
Floyd Tucker, a former citizen of Brooks, was shot down at the door at his home last Friday, in Omaha, by Joe Canella, an Italian resident of the Nebraska metropolis. Tucker died immediately and Canella is held on a charge of first degree murder.
It is said that the shooting was the aftermath of a quarrel in the pool hall, where Canella struck Tucker over the head with a billiard cue. He then chased Tucker down the street to the home of the latter, and just as Tucker was going into the house Canella is alleged to have shot him in the back inflicting a mortal wound. Tucker was unable to tell his wife any details of the affair.
The body was brought to Brooks for burial, and funeral services were held in that place yesterday afternoon, under the auspices of the American Legion, of which the deceased man was a member. A firing squad from Corning and a number of the Legion members from this city and Brooks had charge of the ritualistic work of the organization at the grave, Lee Watts leading the ceremonies. The sermon was by Rev. T. G. Kelly, pastor of the Methodist Church in Brooks and the music was furnished by a quartette consisting of S. M. Richey, Avery Lincoln, Mrs. Glen Van Austin, and Mrs. Estey Hefling.
Floyd Tucker was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Tucker. He was born near brooks and resided there until reaching the age of manhood. At the time of his death he was aged 36 years and 10 months. He was twice married, the last time to Mrs. Mabel Young, who with her son survives Floyd. He also leaves his mother and two brothers, Everett and Forvis in Denver, one brother Clarence of Brooks, two sisters Mrs. Coe Wood and Mrs. Vada Marquardt both of Denver. Floyd entered the World War at the time the United States became involved and served overseas until its close. He was gassed and wounded during his service for his country. The young man had many friends in Brooks and vicinity who regret his untimely death.
