Nels Persson Cronwall

Nels Persson Cronwall, was born at Sandby, Province of Skony, Sweden on November 28, 1858 and passed away July 6, 1948 at the home of his son, Leslie J. at Nodaway, Iowa, bring aged 89 years, 7 months, and 10 days. He came to this country in 1878, at the age of 20 years and settled in Stanton, Iowa and a year later went to Nebraska where he located for a time, then at Emerson, Iowa, and later back to Stanton. Shortly after coming to this country he was naturalized and changed his name from Kronvall to Cronwall.
On March 24, 1889 he was united in marriage to Augusta Wendla Logerquist of Stanton, Iowa. A daughter Mable Vendella was born February 1890.
On February 26, 1895, he was united in marriage to Druscilla Francis Gasson of Stanton, Iowa. Born to this union were four daughters and one son, Mrs. Marie Smith of Pittsburg, California; Mrs. Lucille Larson of Richmond, California; Mrs. Glennella Stanton of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Allie Crussel of Nodaway, Iowa; and Leslie J. Cronwall of Nodaway. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family settled on a farm near Stanton, where they lived for five years and then to a farm near Nodaway until 1926, when they moved to Nodaway. Mrs. Cronwall died in 1939, and since that time he had lived with his son Leslie J. and family.
Mr. Cronwall became a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church in his homeland in 1874 and after coming to this country joined the Cramer Chapel Church south of Stanton. After moving to Nodaway he became a member of the Methodist Church there and served on the Board of Trustee for a number of years. He had served as Board of Directors of District 9 for a number of years and as President of the Board of Education of the Nodaway Consolidated School District.
He was a man who read and knew his Bible and was well able to converse in its contents and teachings. HIs long association with school affairs shows his interest in the better things of life for the community, as taught by church and school.
Funeral services for Mr. Cronwall were conducted at the Sutphen Funeral Home on Thursday, July 8, by Rev. M. A. Rubeson, pastor of the Villisca Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Stanton Cemetery.
