Relatives and friends were saddened by the sudden death of Mrs. Clifford Haley, Thursday, January 3, 1974. She had been hospitalized at Creston, Iowa the past ten days and according to reports, was to have been released within a day or two. She was 77 1/2 years of age.
Erma Faye King, was born June 21, 1896 in Adair County, Iowa to William Edward and Cora Kneller King. She became a member of the Methodist Church in Carl, Iowa, when a young girl and attended high school and business college in Corning.
She taught in the rural schools of Adair and Adams County for several years and returned to this profession in her later years.
Faye, as she was known, was married in 1917 to Lloyd Goodman, presently of Tuscon, Arizona. Three children were born to them, a daughter, Betty Lou. who died in infancy, a son Kenneth, and a daughter, Delores.
In 1936, she was united in marriage to Clifford Haley and they made their home in the Carbon area. They have lived on their farm northwest of Carbon the past 30 years.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, an older sister, Gladys, and her youngest brother, Private Fred Allen King, also her infant daughter, two infant grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.
A loving and a giving person, Faye never spoke against anyone and was willing to do whatever she could to help others.
Those of the immediate family who will miss her greatly are her husband, Cliff, her daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Ronald Jackson of St. Paul, Nebraska; and her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Janie Goodvin of Waterloo, Iowa; one sister, Ruby Parker of Denver, Colorado; and a step son, Jack Haley of Carbon; also two step-daughters, Lois Wilkinson of Corning and Tryvilla Dicks of Villisca, eleven grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at the Roland Funeral Home, January 8, conducted by Rev. Lewis Hunter of Clarinda, a brother-in-law. Burial was in the Stand Cemetery.
Organ music was played by Donna Peckham. Casketbearers were eight grandson, Ray Jackson, David Jackson, Kris Jackson, Kent Jackson, Kenneth Goodvin, Mark Goodvin, Roger Haley, and Ramon Haley.
