John William Hanna, son of Andrew and Margory Hanna, was born April 20, 1857 in Guernsey County, Ohio and passed away Sunday afternoon, December 12, 1926, at 2:45 o'clock. Mr. Hanna came with his parents when four years of age and settled at Quincy and he has spent his entire life in this community.
He was married to Hattie R. McDonald, March 18, 1886, and to this union were born seven children. They are John Floyd, who died in infancy; Miss Hazel who resides at home; Mrs. Lelia Minter of Tyron, Nebraska; Mrs. Lois Hunt and Mrs. Joy Craft of Corning, Iowa; Mrs. Wilma Deere of Mt. Etna vicinity, and Margery at home. Besides his broken-hearted wife and daughter, Mr. Hanna leaves to deeply mourn his passing, one sister, Mrs. S. D. Shelby of Odebolt; a niece, Mrs. J. H. Carrens of Macomb, Illinois, and a number of relatives and a host of friends who will mourn the passing of the passing of a kind friend and a true neighbor, one who always had a pleasant greeting for all whom he met.
Mr. Hanna was a great lover of his home where he was always found, a devoted husband and a kind father.
He had been in failing health for some time, but the seriousness of his condition was not learned until about eight weeks ago. All through his sickness, he was very patient and bore up bravely until the last. He was confined to his bed but a few days previous to his passing away, Sunday afternoon.
Funeral services were held at the home, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Mr. Doak, and the body was laid to rest in Quincy Cemetery.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Shelby, a sister of Mr. Hanna, from Odebolt; Mrs. William Thompson of Des Moines, and Mrs. Carrie Champ of University Place, Nebraska, sisters of Mrs. Hanna.
