Stewart, Faye Maxine Young -
Funeral services for Maxine Stewart, age 92 of Prescott, who died Thursday,
January 18, 2007, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr will be held
Monday, January 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Prescott United Church Disciples of
Christ. Visitation will be held at the church in Prescott from 1:00 p.m. until service
time at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Interment will be held in the Walnut Grove Cemetery
in Corning. Memorials can; be directed to her church. Please leave a message of

Faye Maxine Stewart was born November 22, 1914, near Mount Zion, north of Prescott,
Adams County, Iowa the daughter of Walter Young and Ethel (Watt) Young. She
graduated from Prescott High School with the Class of 1932. She then attended
Northern Iowa State Teacher's College where she received her Teaching
Certificate in 1934, and later continued her education at Northwest Missouri
State College in Maryville, Missouri. Maxine taught for twenty years, two
years in Colony Township Rural School; two years at Nevinville; then later in life;
for sixteen years at Prescott Community School; retiring in 1983.
On March 13, 1938, Maxine was united in marriage to Carlton M. Stewart. Together
they farmed in the Stringtown area. After Carlton's death on December 14, 1977,
Maxine continued to manage the farm until her death. She had a deep respect for
the land and found great joy in her rural way of life.
Maxine loved her family, church, flowers, gardening and community. She was a
life-member of the National Education Association, a longtime member of Pi
Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; a lifelong and active member of the Prescott Church,
United Church Women, the church quilting group, the Adams County Genealogical
Society, and other community organizations.
Left to cherish Maxine's memory are her two daughters Judy Combs and husband
Don of Bloomfield, Iowa; and Marilyn Routh and husband Bernard of Whiting, Iowa;
a son, Hal Stewart of Lenox; six grandsons, Jeffery and Victor Combs; David and
Tony Routh; Daniel and Chris Stewart; three greatgrandchildren, Hannah, Roman,
and Regan Combs; a sister-in-law, Mary Kay Young of Corning; along with several
nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Maxine in death were her parents; husband Carlton; two brothers,
Lloyd and Harold Young; an infant granddaughter, Stacy Stewart; and parents-
in-law, Mart and Clara Stewart.
