Karen Kay Russell was born July 10, 1941, in Prescott, Iowa the daughter of Albert
Hunter and Wilma Mary Williams Hunter, however, she was raised by the only father
she really knew, Harold Eugene Walter. She grew up in the Bridgewater and later
Prescott areas attending school. On October 4, 1958 she was united in marriage to
Boyd Russell. Four children were born to bless this union, John, Kathy, Rita and
Douglas. The couple lived in Prescott until 1981 when Boyd's health required the
family to move south. They went to Oklahoma where they lived until 1986, when they
moved to Decatur, Arkansas. Karen worked as a dietary manager for many years,
retiring a couple of years ago.
Boyd passed away in 1998. Karen was always a very compassionate woman. She
loved, and was loved, by everyone. She was passionate about animals, especially
horses. Her first horse was "Beauty" and her second one was a Palomino named
"Babe", who was her best friend growing up. In later years, Karen's passion was
crocheting. She lovingly made blankets for all of her family. She also enjoyed reading
Stephen King novels and watching scary movies. She was known as her 'husband's
right-hand-man' on the farm, doing whatever she could to help out.
Karen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Williamson Unit No. 719.
Left to cherish Karen's memory are her parents, Harold and Wilma Walter of
Prescott; four children, John Russell and wife Kady of Lenox; Kathy Davidson and
husband Louis of Decatur, Arkansas, Rita Wood and husband Everett of Kansas,
Oklahoma and Douglas Russell and wife Ann of Greenwood, Arkansas, one
brother, Roger Walter of Prescott, one sister Marcia Almquist and husband Gary of
Ellston, Iowa, two half brothers Arlin and Allen Hunter, 13 grandchildren and
9 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Karen in death was her father Albert, husband Boyd, and great
granddaughter Payton Porter.
