Graveside services for Leota Jones, age 84 of Corning, who died Thursday,
June 1, 2006, at the Corning Nursing & Rehab Center were held Sunday, June 4,
2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oakhill Cemetery in Corning with Reverend Tim Maxa
officiating. Visitation was held Sunday from Noon to 1:30 at the Roland-Ritchie
Funeral Home in Coming. Memorials can be directed to the Mercer Center

to Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home of Corning.
Leota Marie Jones was born March 24, 1922, in Mercer Township, Adams
County, Iowa the daughter of Clifford Casey and Margaret (Haggerty) Casey.
She grew up attending school in Mercer Township and graduated from
the Corning High School with the Class of 1940. She then taught in rural
school in Adams County for several years. On February 10, 1948, she was
united in marriage to Charles (Shorty) Jones in Corning. Born to bless this
union were two children, Klinton and Charliesa (Liesa). When Charles joined
the United States Navy in 1950, Leota accompanied him to his duty
posts of the Philippines and Kansas. They returned to Corning in 1958, residing
on the north edge of town. Her family was always important to her and she
loved spending time together.
Left to cherish Leota's memory are her son Klinton Jones of rural Corning; a
daughter, Charliesa (Liesa) Phillips of Kansas City; two grandchildren, Holly and
Derek Phillips, two sisters, Ila Eivins of Creston; and Florence Reynolds of
Corning; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Leota in death were her parents, Clifford and Margaret Casey;
husband Charles in 1999; a son-in-law, David Phillips; and a sister Wilma.
May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn Leota's passing.
