Maggie E., wife of Joseph Bixler, died at her home southwest of Villisca, Sunday evening, January 6, 1901, aged 54 years, 11 months, and 5 days. Death came with but little warning, and was probably caused by injuries she received about three weeks before, though she appeared to be recovering slowly and she had not complained of feeling worse that day. She had been sitting up and had been assisted to a place to lie down when death came. Her maiden name was Maggie E. McCullum and her birth place was in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, January 29, 1846. She came to Clarinda in 1872 and was united to Joseph Bixler in 1884 and one son was born to this union. In early life she was a member of the Presbyterian Church, but later in life she united with the Methodist Church. She was a working and a studying Christian and was identified with the auxiliary church organization, such as Sunday school and mission societies wherever she saw help needed. The funeral was in the home Tuesday forenoon and relatives who paid a last tribute of respect to a good woman. Rev. Dudley conducted the services. The body was taken to Carbon for burial. Villisca Letter.
