Cecil Dee Beckwith, son of Rhonda and George Riley Beckwith, was born in Adams County, Iowa November 30, 1878 and expired June 15, 1950 at the age of 71 years, 6 months, and 15 days.
His childhood was spent in the vicinity of Adams County. On April 13, 1901 he was wed to Miss Louisa Thomas of Mt. Etna, Iowa. To this union were born eight children, two of whom preceded him in death, Violet in infancy and Clesson, April 4, 1936 at the age of 30. In passing, he leaves beside his wife, Louise at the family home, 807 Grove Avenue, Corning, Iowa, three daughters, Mesdames Gladys Barnes, Mason City, Fondeen Westphal, Bridgewater, and Marjorie Dotson, Prescott; three sons, Thomas E., Long Beach, California, Duane and Theo, St. Joseph, Missouri, his four daughters-in-law and 16 grandchildren.
Cecil is also survived by four sisters, Mesdames, Gertrude Eno, Villisca, Letha Tilton, Wyoming, Beulah Channell, Corning, Gloria Brown, Creston.
He was united with the church of the Brethren at Mt. Etna about 1921, remaining active continuously since.
With the exception of a very short time spent in South Dakota in 1903, his entire adult life was spent in the community.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, June 18, at 3:00 at the Church of the Brethren in Mt. Etna with Rev. Homer Caskey of Council Bluffs in charge. He was assisted by Rev. Harry Roages and Rev. Olvier Davison.
Music was by Clarence Johnston and Lucille Evans accompanied by Kathrine Kimpson. Pall bearers were Leslis Duncan, Everett Fees, Carl Hanna, Lloyd Duncan, Francis Lambury, and Andy Johnston. Burial was in Mt. Etna Cemetery.
