Samuel C. Myers, son of Jonathan E. and Nancy Purdum Myers, was born near Sardinia, Brown County, Ohio August 17, 1874 and died in the St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa, Iowa, March 22, 1947, aged 72 years, 7 months, and 5 days.
He came with his parents to Iowa December 1881. Most of his young life was lived in Adams and Taylor Counties.
He was converted and joined the Methodist Church at Iveyville when a young man. In April 1898 he was married to Enola Doty of Iveyville. He farmed for a few years, then moved to Nodaway where he operated a livery barn. From there they moved to South Dakota for a few years, then went to Canada where he lived a good many years.
He returned to Iowa the last of March 1942 to find his brother Ellwood near death in the Clarinda Municipal Hospital. He worked around Corning for a short time; then went to Ackworth where he met his present wife. They were married May 1942.
He was a cheerful, good hearted man with a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers, and two sisters.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife Lenore; one brother, Elmer of Cromwell; his sisters, Emma and Mrs. Henry Shuler of Corning; also sever nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in the Boyd Roland Funeral Home, Monday, March 24th, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, services conducted by Rev. V. A. Bloomquist. Music was furnished by Mrs. Russell Roland and Mrs. Lyle Posten. Pall bearers were Glenn Myers, Myron Shuler, Ernest Hayward, Bryan Nolbrook, Delman Leonard, and Olin Shuler. Interment was in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
